The JRC of the FCT High Court is an integral part of a large scale European Union (EU) funded project on “the support to the EFCC and the Nigeria Judiciary which was launched in 2006 and assists the Nigerian Judiciary at the Federal level and within 10 pilot states in devising and implementing action plans for strengthening judicial integrity and capacity. Measures included in these action plans aim to enhance access to justice, the timeliness and quality of Justice Delivery, integrity, accountability and transparency of the Courts and coordination across the criminal justice system.
FACILITIES AT THE JUDICIAL RESEARCH CENTRE
The Judicial Research Centre (JRC) is an IT facility which provides access to legal research tools, the internet and some specialized IT applications such as a Complaints Management System. The Judicial Research Centre has three main components:
1. A satellite dish,
2. A server room
3. 20 units of desktop computer systems (including a scanner & a printer).
MAIN OBJECTIVES
The aim of the Judicial Research Centre is to improve timeliness and quality justice delivery as well as overall transparency of courts operations. Easy access to legal information and state-of-the-art information systems which will help Judges and Magistrates in conduction research and writing judgments, find references and case citations.

THE FUNCTIONS OF THE FCT HIGH COURT JRC is as follows:
1. Management of the FCT High Court official website.(www.fcthighcourt.gov.ng).
The management of the official website includes updating of court activities, court news, cause list on daily basis, court profiles and court directory.

2. Redesigning & Annual Bandwidth Subscription of the official website.

3. Management of the electronic law report. (Lawpavilion)
– 37 Judges.
– 53 Magistrates.
– 19 Newly appointed Magistrates (yet to get).
4. Annual Subscription of lawpavilion electronic law report.

5. Database of Court’s decision (Judgments/ Rulings) from 2010.

Judgments and Rulings of the High Court are been collected in soft copies and stored in the JRC database as well as been published on the High Court official website in pdf file format. (FCT High Court online law reporting)

6. Case management system (still at the 1st stage).

The case management system is an IT based application that tracks cases from the point of filing at the process unit to the point of being disposed off by the court. There are three major court forms involved in the collation of these data thus they are as follows:
– Case filing form: This form is being completed by the process unit for every newly filed case.
– Case assignment register: This form is being completed by an officer in the Litigation department to reflect the various courts in which new cases are being assigned to.
– Weekly court update register: This form is being completed by the court registrars to reflect the stages of all the cases attended to in their courts on a weekly basis.
7. Training of court staff in basic IT skills (in conjunction with UNODC). As part of the services of the Judicial Research Centre court staffs are being trained in batches at the centre from time to time on basic IT and computer application skills.

8.  Access to internet service for Judges and Magistrates. Internet service is available at the Judicial Research Centre to Judges and Magistrates.

9. Any other task assigned by the High Court Administration.
